It is commonly believed that parents can monitor their children regardless of time or place. However, I don't think that's possible at this moment. Firstly, the duration for parents to spend in caring for children is small as every family member does not have enough spare time. Secondly, external stimulus are a lot more comprared to those from parental assistance.
For one thing, parents do not spend much time in playing with their children.
This is supportable to refer to the current situation that most of mothers work at the office, consigning their children toward daycare center or babysitter. For night working moms, 24 hour facilities are also operating in many cities. How about fathers? They are also exhausted at working all day without not much of time to play with.
South Korea ministry of gender equality and family investigated over one thousand married people, who have own children, over the issue of spending time per day. 70% of fathers answered less than half an hour while the percentage goes for less when it come to working mom. Instead, they excused for providing young child with kindergarten teacher and grandparents.
Another example is also there. The movie Click contains some material of father who does not want to go on a picnic on the weekends and of wife and children who are always anxious for family activity.
On top of that, external causes exist a lot more for stimulating child's growth compare to parental care.
Parents are working. Then, child wants to find someone or something which can be playmates. Those can be friends, television, computer or videogames. But the scope of playing mates is extremely diverse and wide. If considering the limited spare time with parents, children cannot help getting bigger impacts from the activity derived from outsourced stimuli.
Children's response upon the situation is detectable by the movement of the subjects. Children developement psychologists set the experiment circumstance. They let young children wear goggles to find out what kinds of things they would like to watch continuously. The subjects were largely classified into two;moving and stationery. Above half of children do not hesitate to observe the things that are moving. The situation, however is somewhat different given that parents are exhausted late at night with only watching soap operas and news without much conversation. Then, as time goes by, the children get shut down the door of their heart.
In conclusion, controls over the children are nowadays confined into the tiny scope. Out of sight, out of mind. The more time they have spent, the larger chance child and parents come to share common interests and concerns. But the actual circumstance seems quite far from the expectation. More than that, even if the range of care would include not only parents but also other family members, children are exposed to another things around them.
All things regarded, I strongly disagree that parents can monitor many kinds of children's behavior pattern and thought as far as they have much more times altogether and remove all kinds of external factors. |
