It is controversial whether franchising is better choice than having one’s own business. Lecturer claims that buying franchise from a company can cause unexpected problems. On the other hand writer says franchise is better than creating one’s own business because franchise can reduce possible risks.
To begin with, the speaker asserts that franchising gives owner no choice about choosing products because parent company forces the owner to sell certain products. Therefore the owner has to give up control over the products. This point directly contradicts the author’s contention that parent company gives owner reliable that are already tested thoroughly, reducing owner’s risks of failure.
On top of that, the professor talks about survey that shows franchised owners do not like parent company’s’ approach to marketing. Even if the company spends 6% of income for advertising, the parent company does not use it for owners but for their own good. This rebuffs writer’s assertion that owners can save their time and resources by not advertising products because the goods are already popular.
Finally, the speaker claims that fees that owners have to pay for services of parent company are too high considering useless services that the company gives. This rebuts author’s contention that service of company afford owners security because the company gives useful training that has been tested to be very successful.
