Last week, I saw an interesting news about the relationship between the amount of exercise and health. The experiment was putting a rat in a small cage which the rat can barely move, and the other rat is placed in a large room with a wheel for exercise. Although many scientists believe the exercised rat will live more than the other one, the result was astonishing; while the healthy one lived four month, the rat which did not have any chance to exercise died only in three weeks. Nowadays, there are controversy over whether the university should treat athletic departments as the library. Some people may think learning is the most important activity which cannot be compared to anything, I disagree with the statement because health surpass the intelligence and sports can let students to release their stress.
To begin with, as the experiment above, if students do not get the chance to exercise and only study, they will get serious diseases like the rat which only lasted three weeks and won't get a chance to applicate their intelligence. My mom always told me that being in a good shape is very important. At first, I did not realized why health was so important. Yet, last summer, I was preparing for the final exam which would allow me to enter the best academy in Korea. Because I studied really hard, all the people around me said I will pass the test for sure. However, their guess was far off the mark. Before the test, I had a stomachache and I missed the test. I was so angry and frustrated about the fact that I did not get the chance to solve it, I promised to myself I'll always take care of myself more than anything else.
Another reason for my opinion is that by playing a sport, student can release their stress. When people are attending to school, it would be stressful due to lots of tests and study. On the other hand, sports allows us to get rid of stress by being with friends and concentrating on something than study. According to the famous psychologist, John. P. Boris, stating "students would perform better in their academic work if they have means to aim on something else than study." When he announced this concept, it was not accepted and many people counted him as a fool. Despite of people's ignorance, he established a private school and he did experiments with his students. Ten years later, although he passed away before he presented his result, his son reported that students who were ordered to play sports at least three times per week showed 15 percent higher result on test. Until now, many teachers exhort students to sports occasionally in order to concentrated more on their study.
In Korea, there is an old saying, "If you lost money, you lost only a little. If you lost your friend, you lost a lot. However, if you have lost your health, you've last all." I agree that students should concentrate on their study. Yet, I strongly believe they should also take care of their health because without good health, large amount of intelligence is useless. Moreover, students can concentrate better on their study if they play sports due to getting rid of their stress.
