It is one of the common habits of successful people to get up early in the morning and there are consistant publication of books which insist the benefits of starting the day early. On the contrary, there are also some peopel who prefer to have heavy sleep until late morning and work until late at night. I think I am a morning person and I prefer to start the day earlier than other people. There are many reasons on my preference, and here I present some of them.
First of all, I believe it is more natural and better for health to get up early in the morning than to get up late. Before the advent of electricity, the day of people started at the time of sun rise and it ended after the sunset. Human beings have been evolved to adapt our biological clocks, which are believe to be embedded in every living animal, according to the cycle of the sun. Some scientific research revealed that artificial lights during night can interrupt this biological clock and can cause some problems in endocrine system, which can harm the physical health. Therefore, I think it is better to advoid the artificial lights if possible and it is one way to go to bed early at night.
In addition, I can concentrate more easily on certain works in the early morning. Strating the day earlier than other people means that I do not need to share the space or other materials with them. For example, I have an experience of getting up early and conducting an experiment of biology when I was a graduate student. This was because the equipments were engaged all the time and I wanted to use them without hurry. This resulted in good performance at the end. Also, I can work in the early morning without interruption. It often happens that other colleques want me to help them or simply I cannot concetrate on work in boisterous offices where other coworkers work and talk. On the contrary, it is possible to focus on what I want to do in silent and peaceful office if I start the day earlier than other people in company.
Some people believe that sleeping habit is not aquired but inherited, so it is demanding for some people to get up early and they cannot help getting late. However, I believe every human being is inheritied to get up early according to our biological clock and it is a good way to be healthy and to concentrate on works. |
