People have various opinions regarding the most suitable jobs for themselves. While a lot of people believe that providing high salary is the most crucial aspect of a preferable job, I strongly disagree with such opinion. Even though you can earn a good amount of money, working would be stressful if it does not fit your aptitude or if it does not provide you with enough free time.
For one, fitting in one's field of interest is one of the most critical aspects of one's career. Even though you can earn a lot of money, if the job does not fit you or if you do not enjoy working at all, you would be tremendously stressed out for the whole time. Some people even get to the point that they cannot bear the extreme mental stress so that they have to quit the job, regardless of the high salary they earn. For instance, my sister's case clearly exemplifies such situation. She used to work in a fairly big corporate in the advertisement section. She has actually been interested in becoming a social worker all along but took the offer from the corporate just because of the noticeably high salary. However, she ended up quitting just after a year because she could not bear the competitive atmosphere and pursuit of everyone working just for profits of the conglomerate. She was mentally exhausted in the end, and I also had to recommend that she should consider another career. From her case I could totally realize why money cannot be the most important condition in career choosing, as you will not be able to sustain if you do not actually enjoy working.
Furthermore, having a fair amount of leisure time is also a very important aspect in career. Most of the highest salary earning jobs require workers to work day and nights, not providing sufficient time to rest and do other activities necessary in life. Such careers can lead to an unbalanced life, and even turn people into workaholics, who even start to distance themselves from socializing and living a well-balanced life. For example, advocats who work in world's most prestigious law firms are commonly known to earn hundreds or even thousands of dollars by hour. However, at the same time, they are known to not have the time to spend the money, even though they have it abundantly. Lots of them work day and nights, at the office and at home as well, pursueing only the value of wealth in their career. However, it is highly doubtful whether they are sustaining a happy life, if they do not actually have the time to spend the money, enjoy with their families and be engaged in activities they cherish.
In conclusion, I strongly disagree with the idea that money is the most important aspect of a job. This is because people can only sustain a happy career life if they enjoy working and if they are able to maintain a well balanced life. Thus, success in career is definitely not proportional to the wealth you attain from your job. | |
