Many people say that one can do something well when he or she has much information or knowledge about it. They claim that it is a significant opportunity for a person to learn about something by continuously talking with and listening to other people about that topic. However, I strongly believe that nothing can beat the value of experience, which means a process of directly facing a situation and making hard efforts.
When a person experiences something in the process of learning, he can have a chance to encounter the circumstance. Discussing or listening to a particular topic may provide a person with superficial knowledge, but it cannot give him or her an everlasting memory. For example, when a person tries to learn playing baseball, he or she may acquire a large amount of understanding of the rules or the methods of playing a game. Nevertheless, he or she will have hard time while playing the real game since he or she has not been on the field. Therefore, one should have a real experience to learn something thoroughly.
In addition, a person should learn something by doing it because it can make him or her give a trial to achieve something even though he or she may fail. Attempting and making an effort are crucial for learners. As a person makes mistakes, he or she can learn from them by looking back and by trying to improve him or her. To give my own instance, when I learned cooking, I always tried to cook by myself even though I might burn the materials and cause troubles. As a result, I can now cook a great meal for my family without anyone’s help. Thus, it is important for learners to take a risk and try to do something by themselves.
Although some people think that frequent failures can disappoint the learner in the process of learning, I definitely think that the whole process has a great value. There is a saying, “Failure is the mother of success.” This cannot be achieved if one does not make even one attempt to learn something by himself or herself. When a person wants to learn something and keep the knowledge from it, he or she should experience it through his or her own body. Then, the memory of experience will be left in your mind much longer than the knowledge gained from listening to other people’s thoughts.
