Those who focus only on the efficiency of solving problems might say that asking for advice from other people is much better than experiencing by ourselves. Of course, we can reduce the time and energy if we do so. However, I think that it is better to solve problems from our own experiences. There are major two reasons. One is that the advices from others can be subjective. The other is that we can keep the resolutions and lessons in mind for a long time if we experience on our own.
First of all, the advices from other people might not be objective in many cases. It means that resolutions depend on the person. Every person has his or her own situation and emotion. For that reason, we sometimes can see some problems get much worse after we accept the other people's advice. For example, I got some advices about what to take before the course registration. I wanted to take some courses about regional studies, but many seniors were against my idea because of bad rumors they heard before. They recommended some courses that were quite easy to get a good score, and I followed their advices, but I regretted a lot after the semester ended. The classes did not fit to my interests, and so the results were not that good as they advised to me.
Secondly, we can get rid of any possibilities that the problems can happen again. The reason is that we can never forget about our experience and such a hard time. The harder we experience, the more difficult we forget it. As we remember it for a long time, we do not make the same mistake again. My experience supports this. I have heard many advices about taking inoculation of bad flu. I did listen many times, but I did not follow soon. However, I got a severe flu two years ago, so I was in the hospital for a week. After going through such a hard time, I realized the importance of inoculation.
To sum up, I agree with the statement that it is better to solve problems from your own experience than to ask for advice from other people for two reasons. First, many advices come from personal views, so it might be too subjective. Second, we can avoid from making the same mistake again by bearing strongly in mind if we experience. |
