▶ Your Answer :
Certainly, robots and computers play significant roles in many of the places where people work or play. Some people think that robots and computers have had reduced people’s job opportunities, while others think differently. If I were asked to choose one, I consider that robots and computers have had a positive influence on people’s lives for several reasons.
To begin with, computers and robots improved the standard of living. The invention of computers and robots produced more business sectors, more job positions and higher household incomes. This trend has been likely to save people from poverty, contributing to the overall national economic growth. For example, in the 1990s, Korea has suffered from economic recession and poverty. In the late 1990s, the government invested billions of dollars in the invention of computers. This investment eventually decreased the poverty rate as well as the unemployment rate. The most contributing factor was that more job sectors such as industries of computer programming provided more people opportunities to work and earn income for their households. In other words, people with little or no income emerged as the new middle class. This implies that the employment within these business sectors has brought prosperity to people. Without the invention of computers, the economy would have been much worse off.
In addition, the invention of computers and robots improved the quality of people’s jobs which permitted people to express their ideas into their work. Before the development of computers and robots, people were required to do simple work that did not require expertise. However, this trend was reversed as computers processed trivial works instead of human and allowed people to take on work with professionalism. For example, when my dad was in his twenties, he was depressed thinking that his life became an exhausting routine. In his company, he was only required to do frivolous jobs such as calculating the number of products that was sold. He did not find any value in his work because he thought that his work could be replaced by other people with ease. However, as computers were invented, the companies became to no longer require those replaceable jobs to their employees. In fact, my sister works at Samsung, one of the great companies in Korea, and do jobs which she can express her creativity, such as producing the advertisement of the company to improve its image. Obviously, these kind of jobs can boost the values of each employee as their values of ideas cannot be weighed to those of others; in other words all of their ideas are regarded as valuable. If the computers were not made, people would have been suffered from doing manual jobs.
To sum up, the advantages that the computers and robots have had on people’s lives overweigh the disadvantages of those for the reasons I have mentioned above. All in all the importance of the machines that improved the economic condition and enhanced the qualities of jobs cannot be overestimated in life. |
