Finding an efficient study method that one can best adapt with is critical for an in depth understanding on what they are studying. While there certainly are several advantages of studying as a groop, in most occasions, it is regarded that studying alone is better than studying in a group. There are two fundamental reasons that back up this assertion and to explain why the advantages of studying alone should not be overlooked when dealing with such argument.
First, many researchers assert that in an interactive society, people must learn from each other. Their main claim is that because humans are social animals, we have learned and acquired knoweldge through imitating other's behavior and through intercommunication. Therefore, these researchers that are for studying as a group encourage this highly helpful group studying. Although this claim may sound plausible, in most cases, I personally believe that studying solely by onself is better. Suppose you are trying to prepare for history exams that require many practices through answering numerous questions. Although debating historical events with others may help your memorization and comprehension of the flow in history, this will not be the best solution when preparing for "exams". In this case, you would need to study by yourself to better concentrate.
Second, studying as a group with constant discussion would not only distrupt your concentration but may also interupt your entire plan of the day. Most people plan their regular study periods and attempt to achieve this time. This is only possible when studying by yourself as you will be the one responsible for and the one managing your own time. Let me explain a time when I attended a study group to elaborate this opinion. I used to attend an English study meeting twice a week to further my range of vocabulary. At first, I thought this would be a good motivation for me. However, as time past, I realized that my study members used the hours to chat or to talk about irrelevant issues. I thought it was time-killing and decided to quit. From this experience, however, I became aware that studying alone actually aids in effective study planning that permits wise use of my irrevocable time.
Finally, there have been many research to investigate on how to best study. I believe that each person has to find his or her own way of studying through self-reflection. From my point of view, although my study method is never perfect and I am continually striving for a better way of studying, when given the two options, I would say that studying alone is better compared to studying as a group. As mentioned before, one can better concentrate and study effectively without wasting their time on trivial issues.
