I agree with the idea that direct advertising toward children should not be allowed. Some people say that advertisement is just one of media which children observe in a real world. In my perspective, however, advertising toward children should be banned because it contains harmful contents and drives our children to have indiscriminate desires for goods. To begin with, many advertisements contain harmful contents. Exposing sexual image is a major strategy of advertising companies. They often show violent and distorted social images to stimulate people. For instance, there was a happening that 5 years old boy took a sexual motion to his 3 year old sister in In addition, advertising toward children is harmful because young children do not have ability to decide whether some goods are necessary for them or not. Since advertisements try to stimulate the desire of buying using advertising techniques, children cannot help being fascinated to them. Last year, animation Super Car dealing with car competition was popular with children. Some toy companies send out mini-car toy sets advertisement after the animation program, and many children asked their parents for the toy sets. We can notice how advertising toward children cause impulse-buying using children's indiscriminate intelligence. In conclusion, I think that exposing advertisements to children brings about many problems. To provide sound circumstance to our children and prevent useless consumption, I oppose to advertise toward children directly. |
