▶ Your Answer :There has been an argument regarding the issue of whether university
students should be allowed to get credits by taking a test or handing in a
paper. Some people maintain that students should be able to get full scores
through a test or paper. I, however, believe that they should be required to
attend classes for the following reasons.
To begin, it would be unfair for some students. To explain, students who
already have much knowledge about what is handled in class would certainly have
an advantage. Students who don’t attend classes might also have private lessons
regarding the class he or she registered for. For instance, my friend
Elizabeth, who went to the same classes with me in university, used to be
absent most of the time. However, she got enough credit for the class because
she did well in her test by taking private lessons. So, it was unfair for other
students including me, who attended all the classes, where we spent a lot of
time in. As seen above, I think earning credits just by taking a test or
handing in a paper is against fairness.
Furthermore, a test or paper cannot evaluate a student’s academic ability
completely. Most of the classes make students do various assignments such as
presentations, team projects and so on. They should also be participating in
class actively. A good example would be an experience of mine, when I was a
university student and had to do a team project in German class. The team
project required teamwork, since the five of us had to work on only one topic.
We each had different roles in the team and everyone did their job faithfully.
As a result, our professor liked how we worked together as a perfect team and
gave us high grades. However, professors can’t find that kind of teamwork in written
examinations. In this sense, I belive that written tests or papers cannot
replace the diverse abilities of a student that should also be included in the
marks.
In a nutshell, I think that students who attend classes in univerities
should not be feasible to get enough credit by taking a test or writing a paper
instead of being present in class. This is because it is unfair for others
students who come to all classes, which takes up much time and because it is
impossible to estimate a student fully. |
