▶ Your Answer : According to the reading passage, there are several plausible explanaions for a rare weather event known as red rain in the Indian state of Kerala. On the other hand, The lecturer casts doubt on the writer's claim, arguing that explanations about origin of the red rain have some problems. First of all, the reading passage's claim is that the massive destruction of bats spreads blood into air, resulting in red rain in the area. However, The lecturer refutes the claim. According to the lecturer, the bat blood theory is far-fetched. 5 million of bats should have destroyed at once to make blood disperse the whole area. However, it is not possible itself. In addition, there were not any remains of bats, like bones. Second, the writer make a point that acidic volcanic dust from Philippine moved toward the Kerala, and the mixture of dust and rain with low pH turned itself red. On the contrary, the professor points out that the assumption of volcanic eruptions in Philippine is not proven. The reason why the theory is unpersuasive is that the red rain occurred only in the Kerala, not Philippine at all, even though the volcano erupted in Philippine as well. Finally, the reading passage asserts that industrial chemical caused red rain with combined with moisture. In contrast, the speaker has contradict argument that there is no reason to prove the explanation that chemicals released from factories are cause of red rain. Even if many cities in the country have much more factories, which have chimneys without ability to filtrate, it didn’t happen in the cities. Ironically, the Indian state of Kerala has fewer number of factories than cities, meaning that factories are not the cause of the red rain.
