Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Grades (marks) encourage students to learn. Use specific reasons and examples to support your opinion. |
Education is one of the most important things to improve our life in modern society. There are many different approaches to encourage students to learn. I believe that grades are helpful approach to encourage students to learn because grades help students know what they need to study more and how much they understand a certain subject. To begin with, students can know by themselves how much they absorb a certain subject with grades. It means that if students have high grades, they just keep what they study otherwise if they have low grades they realize that they need to study much more to improve. For example, I always got A grade in Math during my elementary school except one semester. I did not feel the need to study hard in Math but I had very low grade in my fall semester in 5th grade. I realized that I needed to study more Math. After that, I studied harder for a few months. Eventually, I could improve my Math again and I got the 1st rank in Math. In addition, grades can help students easily make their goal in a certain subject. Because they know how and where they are in a certain subjects they can easily make their goal which they can afford it by themselves. For example, when I got a C grade in Korean composition, my grade could help me how much I should study it more. I made my goal to get B grade because if I make my goal too high I could not afford it. Finally, I studied more Korean composition and I got B plus. To sum up, I believe that grades encourage students to learn because they can make a goal by themselves and they can realize how much and what they need to study more. When teacher make grades, they have to consider that grades are not directly related to students’ study ability. |
