In the reading passage, there is ample support for the author’s claim that it is unplausible that Amazon has supported a large and advanced civilization. However, the professor in the lecture gives several reasons as a rebuttal to the author’s point. First, the professor contends that although the amazon had a dense vegetation, civilization could have been there. There were a few signs in the Amazon. For example, there were towns and villages in the amazon. This ancient remains can be the factor that proves that there was a civilization. This casts doubt on the reading passage’s claim that civilization could not have been there because Amazon’s a lot of vegetations prevented amazon people from communicating. Next, the professor insists that the tools found in the amazon also sophisticate. According to a recent study, there was a island nearby Amazon. And in that region, there were vessels that had detailed symbols. This means that amazon tool was advanced. This counters the reading passage’s assertion that amazon tools was so simple and did not required high levels of technology. So they may did not have advanced technique to build big civilization. Finally, the professor argues that the region the european explores went was so vast. So they could not have found civilization. In other words, they failed to find. Moreover, find a civilization entirely takes a lot of time. For example, a remain of Cambodia had been eventually found in the mid-nineteen century. This refutes the reading passages suggestion that the european explores could not find any big civilization. They just found small tribes. |
