Which subjects do you think is more important for students to learn? History and literature or math and science? Give specific reasons and examples to support your ideas. |
Nowadays, students learn a lot of subjects such as math, science, history, and literature in school. Even though students learn same subjects, it is easy to divide students into two categories: students who prefer math and science, and students who favor history and literature. Advantages for students who prefer math and science are that they become logical and accurate person while advantages for students who prefer history and literature are that they gain broad view of the world. In my opinion, I strongly believe that studying history and literature is more important for two reasons: broad view of the world and language.
To begin with, having broad view of the world through history and literature class enhance student's understanding of the current world issue. Since students study history and literature, history and literature teach them facts in the past as well as the present and even the future. Once I read in CNN that "learning a history and literature helps students acquire a broad view of the world. Having a broad view of the world allow students to understand events in the world." For example, I was one of students who studied hard in history and literature rather than in math and science. Since I learned history and literature, I could understand events in the world better. Even I could have a conversation about historical events which were relevant to the present events.
Furthermore, studying history and literature boost student's writing and speaking skill. If one does not study literature in school, he/her will be likely to use limited amount of the native language. Literature helps one to express his/her opinion and thoughts freely. For example, one of my best friends, Jun-Ho, is famous for writing an essay professionally. Once he told me that his ability to write well-written essay and to speak in perfection is obtained through curriculums in history and literature classes.
In conclusion, history and literature class benefits students more than math and science class. Not only does it make student comprehensible of the world, but also it enhances student's writing and speaking skills. In a modern society, these qualities will be essential. |
