▶ Your Answer : It is always difficult to fathom what other thinks, but my opinion in regard to the given topic is adamant. I disagree with the statement that in the past teachers had greater influence on young people than they do today. First of all, teachers today still have great influence on young people since teachers enable students to learn more and cultivate potentials. Students nowadays are living in a world of meritocracy where only extremely talented one can survive. Consequently, many students suffer physically and mentally from tight schedules and highly competitive environments. In the long run, they cannot but miss chances to delve into numerous issues for any self improvement. The experience of my friend Lindsay, a successful entrepreneur, is a perfect example of what I contend. When she was in colleague, she used to consult with her teachers about her future. Even if it was only for few minutes, she learned a lot of lessons from teachers. This explains why teacher in modern society more care about their students than in the past. Moreover, teachers are the ones that can usher students into the right direction by teaching them precious life lessons and the true value of life. Today, many students are immature to have thorough understandings of life and are likely to become incapable of coping with problems at pivotal moments of their lives. At such time, advices by teacher offer chances for maturation and enlightens them about important values so that they can become a better person. My personal experience can be illustrated to prove this point. When I was in high school, I could not decided my goal so I asked my teacher for some advices. We had a heart to heart talk and I realized that what I am good at and I want to be. For this reason, I think nowaday the teacher have greater influence on students rather than they did past. As explicitly and logically elaborated above, I disagree with the statement that in the past teachers had greater influence on young people than they do today.
