Do you think it is important to know aout events happening around the world that are not related to you? |
In these days, the flow of information has become much faster than in the past such as fourty years ago, so people tend to get new and fresh information every single second. Hence, if you do not have know what is going on in the world, you might not have anything to talk about with people, get a good score on tests, and knowing events around the world makes me look smarter than I really am. Therefore, it is essential for us to know what is occuring in our world though it might not be related to me. To begin with, if you do not recognize what is happening, or what had happened around our environment, which is a fact that many people know, you will not have anything to talk about. Most of the people are interested in hot news and issues. And they talk about them with their friends, co-workers, or even with their parents. And in this way, people become more intimate and build their relationships. Yet, if you do not know what was reported in news, you will not be able to talk about those with people around you. For instance, every time I go to school, my friends talk about league of Starcraft, which is the game they play everyday. However, since I am not intersted in playing computer games, I do not watch game leagues on T. V, so everyday I sat alone and had no one to talk to. But one day, I watched the final match of the league and told my friends who won the game and how he won. Then, they became friendly with me and now, I am their best friend and so are they to me. In addtion, knowing about events all around the world helps me get a good score on school examinations. Big events somtimes become controversial issues around us. And schools are trying to get out of the long tradition of teaching only contents that are in books. With the combination of these two, modern schools are trying to bring those social events to our classes. Teachers try to teach us what is a debatable problem in our community and tend to make them into questions on tests. To illustrate, in Korea, there are some high shcools that are only for the students that were elites among middle shcool graduaters. In these high shcools, they are trying to have only students that are very good. Therefore, they are more focusing on social problems and issues to ask what they think about those. By recognizing what is going on on the Earth, we can get good grades on tests. Finally, by perceiving that there are many issues being debated around the world, we can be seen more intellectual. If someone talks fluently about Korea-EU FTA, eventhough it is not directly related to his life, other people will probably think that he is very smart. For example, when I had to present a project in front of my class, I presented contents about the FTA. After I finished all what I had prepared, teachers and my classmates were surprised at how much I know about economics. After that, they call me "doctor Kim". Hence, by knowing events are going on throughout the world, we can be seen smarter than we really are. Some information might not be directly related to our lives and will not affect our lives. However, if we know about them, we can have much to talk about, get excellent grades on tests, and we might be seen smart. Therefore, in conclusion, we have to recognize what are occuring on the Earth so that we can live a better lives. |
