Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? A zoo has no useful purpose. Use specific reasons and examples to explain your answer. |
Concerning the issue whether a zoo has a useful purpose or not, people each hold different point of views. Some people claim that it has overwhelming benefits to both animals and people, while others argue that it is cruel to keep animals in cages. As far as I’m concerned, I’m in the favor of the idea that zoo has many disadvantageous purposes. Like humans, animals have their unique styles of living. Notwithstanding this fact, people are invading their lifestyles by preventing the animals from living naturally. For example, animals maintain their living by searching for foods by themselves. However, by keeping them behind bars, the animals cannot only eat what the zoo keepers provide for them but also cannot run around freely like they did in the wilds. Thus, the animals become stressed out and depressed. It seems like that a lot of people are considering zoo as a safe place from hunters. They think that zoo provides the animals with a comfortable place to live and a clean environment. However, people are soon later disappointed to find out that it is not what they thought it would be. It is even worse than the place the animals used to live. If people truly cared about the animals, they would find solutions to protect them that did not involve putting them in those filthy cages. Aside from all this, a zoo provides children with a chance to experience various animals for real. Yet, because the animals are kept in cages, most of them just stand where they are or even sleep which prevents children from observing them. Then the children, whose main purpose was to experience and learn about the daily life of the animals, would just go home without accomplishing their purpose. To sum up, although zoo holds many benefits among animals and people, its drawbacks cannot be ignored. People should not only think of their profits but also consider in the position of the animals. I think that if people truly thought of the animals, the best way for animals to live a happy life is to leave them in their natural habitats, not behind the bars at zoos. |
