Agree or not : “When people succeed, it is because of hard work. Luck has nothing to do with success.” |
There are a lot of factors that influence a person’s success. To mention some of these, I would give effort, surrounding people’s encouragement, and accidental opportunity. The accidental opportunity is sometimes called “luck.” Nevertheless, I strongly believe that luck comes only to those who are prepared, and the effort is at the top importance to succeed. The first reason why effort is important is that without hard work, it will not be possible for anyone to succeed. Somebody’s help or lightening idea at proper time may place someone on the road to success. However, there are lots of people already on the road. Those are all competitors. To illustrate, studying mathematics is a continuation of problem making and solving. Giving a good idea to a very difficult problem might be possible by a student at beginner level. Even so, it is not guaranteed for the student to be a great mathematician. One should memorize all the definitions of technical terms and current research results. Keeping oneself trained in delivering idea is also necessary. The success as a mathematician is not achieved merely by chance or luck. Secondly, prepared people catch their best luck. To the outside people, the luck may seem to come to a person accidentally. However, it is always the hard-working people who discover the luck. One of my friends had failed to enter the physics summer school for advanced study. Despite his failure, he kept his effort to study physics. Next year, the entrance exam, which had been open only to freshman, was open temporarily to sophomores. He then was able to take the exam, and enroll the summer session because he had kept studying. Near graduation, he applied for the best graduate school majoring in physics, and got admission, thanks to the experience of the advanced course. Seeing him, I realized the old saying, “God helps those who help themselves.” In conclusion, working hard is indispensable in order to succeed. Luck does little for success, but is another name for an award given to those who carry their efforts on. We should keep in mind that it is the most valuable to devote oneself into a field one wants to succeed in. |
I haven't edited it thoroughly. There must be big errors. Can I get good score?
Any comments are welcomed. I'll appreciate it.
