Many people prefer teacher-dominated class. They might support this idea saying that they can spend their time on the points of topic, not on others. In opposition to this point, I strongly argue that students should be allowed to do some talking during class. The rationale behind this is that students can not only develop discussing skills, but also study the materials on a deeper level. By doing this, the whole contents of a class can be also improved positively.
More than anything else, debate during classes enables students to establish discussing skills. Since modern society requires its members to show their own opinions freely, those who take part in a discuss can benefit from the activity. For example, last year, I got many chances to perform presentations in front of my co-workers and boss in my company. As I showed my bright ability of voicing my opinion, I got promoted and now am working as a team manager. Judging from my personal experience, it is important for people to develop debating skills during school in order to be more successful in the real world.
Next, students can learn subjects on much deeper level when they are permitted to attend the class actively. Many young students are very creative and brilliant, thus they can pop many ideas up during discussion, and can also learn various related topics. To illustrate, when I was in college, I took a geology class as an elective. When I learned certain strata of the past, I questioned the professor about dinosaur extinction. Since the geological facts supported some theories of the sudden disappearance of the creature, the professor told us more intricate and profound knowledge she knew, even though that was related to biology. From the class, I could learn biology as well as geology, which helped me to expand my academic horizons. That was like a proverb that goes, "kill two birds with one stone."
Finally, through the participation of students in a class, the whole quality of the class can be enhanced. Many students would ask many related questions to teachers, and instructors would study more materials in an effort to cover the topics before giving a lecture. As a result, students can learn more than they could. For instance, my high school encouraged students to ask many questions during classes. Many teachers were very satisfied with that because students showed more attention to their lessons. Not only that, but also learners could obtain feedbacks from their instructors through many things, such as additional studying materials, research data, and video resources. This reciprocal learning atmosphere also made students contented with the best quality of the classes.
To sum up, I firmly believe that students need to take part in their class by doing some talking. This is highly recommended for them to enhance their discussing ability, deeper academic understanding, and class quality. All in all, doing some talking of students are surely advantageous for both of the learners and the teachers.
