▶ Your Answer :
It is disputable whether children should
have art and music as mandatory school subjects along with math, history, science,
and language. Depending on one’s background and one’s personal experiences, one’s
perspective on this issue can significantly differ. That being said, in my
opinion, I advocate that student should take art and music class as obligate school
subjects along with math, history, science, and language for the two reasons.
First, society requires student have a great deal of knowledge. Second, student
can expand their social relationship with their classmates.
To begin with, children need to have more many
knowledge than limited knowledge. To be specific, it is required for children to
have a wide array of knowledge rather than deep knowledge of one specific
filed. A person who have a wide variety of knowledge is regarded as a ‘person
of intelligence’ in this society, while others who lack knowledge are simply ignored
by people. By taking music and art class, student can accumulate not just
academic knowledge, but a lot of diverse knowledge.
For example, my personal experience can be
used to explain the claim above. When I entered a university, professors
required student have various knowledge about the world. My grade was scored importantly
not only my major’s grade, but also the liberal arts grade. University forced students
to take classes more than three. In art history class, to write an essay let me
make use of diverse knowledge. In contrast to other students, I studied art and
music class as mandatory in high school. I already learned several country’s
art history and played the piano. I had no hard time writing an essay and
report, so I could take the highest score in class safely.
On top of that, students can expand their
social relationship by taking music and art class. In particular, imagine student
always studies math, history alone. Would it be possible to develop social
skill properly? The answer will be “no”. Like math, history and language, subjects
which make student study alone make difficult student to develop their social
skills. Along with your own ability, it is crucial to be recognized by people
and have followers. In this sense, learning music and art as mandatory subjects
can be very helpful for children.
For instance, my sister’s personal experience
can be adopted to valid the mention above. When my sister was little, her personality
was so passive. Although she had far higher grades in her class than any others,
she had not many friends on account of her personality. However, when she
entered a high school, she had to take not only academic subjects, but also an
art subjects such as music. In music class, she learned to play guitar. Even
though she was a first time to play guitar, she did well. Many friends were
surprised at her ability, after all she entered a band as a guitarist. Thanks
to music class, she becomes outgoing person and enjoys her life with her band
member.
To sum up, the importance of having diverse
knowledge and socializing can be achieved by taking music and art class in school.
In conclusion, I am highly convinced that school should create art and music class
as mandatory school subjects for the two reasons I mentioned above. |
