▶ Your Answer : For a long time, teachers has played a critical role in our societies in many ways and has been required to do many things. Some people say that teachers should link with students rather than to be specialists in their area while others think oppositely. If I were asked to choose one, I would say that it is better for teachers to develop their expertise for the following two subsequent reasons.
To begin with, when teachers have a specialized skills, their students can find a job more easily. As the world has been complex, job markets require job candidates with expertise in at least a specific area. Once teachers pass their knowledge on to their students, it helps students grab the chance to get a job. For example, Yonsei University found a huge difference between two groups of graduates. One group consisted of those who improved their specialism by the help of a prominent professor, and the other group was made up of those who studied with a teacher who only took care of their students personally, but not educationally. The researchers found that the former group got higher scores in the job interview. According to the interviewers, the first group showed a higher confidence and a stronger passion in their major. This result supports that being experts helps students in finding a job.
Furthermore, with expertise, teachers are able to teach students more effectively. When teachers show their specialized knowledge in a class, students start to trust them. When students believe in their instructors, students tend to absorb teacher's knowledge. For example, when I attended general high school, I was lazy , and I was poor in school performance. However, I changed gradually after I transported to private high school in which teachers were experts in a field. Because I was expressive from their knowledge and totally trusted them, I could focus on a class without any doubt. As a result, I was able to increase overall grades. Without the teachers who were specialists, I would still have been fallen behind academically.
In a nutshell, having a expertise as a teacher enables students to find a job and to study more efficiently. In this regard, I firmly believe that it is better for teachers to be a expert rather than to connect with students.
