Imagine that one person is is excessively active, likes to play outside and enjoys the thrill of the outdoor activities. There is another one who likes sedentary activities such as reading books and watching movies. Will it be possible for them to get along so well? The answer would be no. Something in common is one of the crucial factors to be a friend. I usually prefer indoor activities and my favorite hobby is to read novels. One day, I got to know one guy and I wanted to be friends with him due to his handsome face. However, all of his concerns were on the sports issues and it made us impossible to continue our conversation. This dissimilarity hinder us from being friends, and in otherwords, friends are really alike. On the top of that, people who are friends have comparable backgrounds. To be specific, socioeconomic status is a crucial indications to expect one's overall characteristics and people with common status usually live together, increasing the chance of making friends with equal status. There is a study which have the purpose to reveal the factors that affect making friends by the psychology majors. It shows that there are many factors such as resemblance in personality, pastimes, academic abilities, and so on. However, socioeconomic status was mediating all the links between possible factors and making friends. This result unveils the importance of sameness in their backgrounds. To sum up, considering the fact that resemblance in personalities and common backgrounds are important factors in making a friend, I firmly hold that a person can be comprehended from his friends. |
