▶ Your Answer : When people meet new people, they mostly see their first appearance. What this mean is that the first appearance such as height, outward looks, clothes and even our speaking tone is very important when we meet other people first time. Especially, the clothes have a great influence on first impression. In my opinion, the reason why clothes affect a lot on formation of first impression is that the clothes which a person wears affect his or her behavior. First of all, they act differently based on formality and style of clothes. That is, the designs and colors of clothes represent certain characteristics, moods, and feelings. Therefore, people tend to act according to how professional or casual their clothes look. For example, for important business meetings, people wear a dark formal suit with a simple design that signifies the official and formal mood of the meetings. As a result, they act in a professional manner and use sophisticated language. On the other hand, when people wear a T-shirt and pants for outdoor activities, they act naturally and feel very casual and relaxed. Second, people behave differently depending on social roles that clothes represent. This is because people tend to act in line with the expected social responsibilities and duties that clothes symbolize. Not surprisingly, studies have shown that the number of cases of student misbehavior, such as smoking, fighting, stealing, and drinking, dramatically decreased after adopting mandatory uniforms. The main reason was that students were highly conscious of the fact that people would recognize them as minors who should not be engaging in unwholesome activities. To sum up, people act differently based on formality and styles of clothes. Also, the behave differently depending on social roles that clothes represent. In this regard, I strongly believe that the clothes a person wears have influence on his or her behavior. |
