Some people think that it is it's
not problematic for teachers to introduce their political or social opinions to
their students. However, in my opinion, teachers should be careful not to
expose their personal thoughts thougths about
many issues to students.
To begin with, there is a potential for students to accept accpet teacher's opinion without
critical perspective. To be specific, students are in the stage of developing
their own identity, which means they are immature mentally. So if a person with
authority such as teachers expresses his or her thought, students are likely to
be affected severely. In this sense, there will be some students who establish
their stance on issues that clashes with their interests. For example, when I
was in a middle school, I was told by my teacher that the labor union had had a
negative impact on society. I believed that the union was bad because I
supposed the teacher was always right. So when I saw a news covering the labor
union with my parents. I depicted the union badly. My parents were surprised to
hear my words. Even my father was one member of his company's union. He taught
me that the union have many positive postitive
functions in society as well to correct my prejudiced
thought.
On top of that, unhealthy disagreements among students may occur about
social issues. To be specific, each teacher has different stances politically.
So students will have divergent ideas instilled by their teacher. Immature
students might believe that their opinions supported by the teacher are
absolutely right and other's opinions have many problems. So if students who
have separate thoughts thougths confront
together, there will be undesirable arguments in which they do not respect each
other's viewpoints. For example, when I was in a middle school, I debated with
my friend about whether the strike is good. My position was not in consensus
with his one because we were told differently in school. My friend and I argued
which position was better one without analyzing the pros and cons of the strike
logically.
To sum up, teachers should not say any word that contains their political politcal or social viewpoints because
students have risks of imitating teacher's stance without consideration and
there is possibility of causing an unproductive
argument. In this regard, I believe that it is it's
better for students not to be exposed to teacher's opinions.
