▶ Your Answer :
Some people think that modern people are
kinder than those in the past. However, in my opinion, contemporary people are
not friendlier than in the past. There are several reasons as following.
To begin with, people these days live in a
competitive world. To survive in such world, people have to study and work more
than others. In this sense, they have no time to be considerable to others and
to understand other people. For example, when I was in college, I spent most of
the time attending classes, studying for exams and preparing for a job. I was
too busy, so I did not have time to concern with others. Even when I met my
friend, I did not ask him for regard. To move forward in this world, I had no
choice but to do that.
On top of that, these days, the
polarization of wealth creates conflicts among people. Since the gap between
the rich and the poor is widening, people’s controversy would increase more
than in the past. Sometimes such controversy gives rise to crime, fight and
misunderstanding which are far from being kind. For instance, a study was
conducted by the Seoul National University in Korea in 2010 to determine that
rich-poor gap could affect the rate of crime. There were two groups monitored.
The first group was formed of those who have a wide gap between the poor and
the rich and the other group consisted of those who have the narrower gap. The
researcher found that the former had the high rate of crime than the latter.
Particularly, the first group tended to be selfish and hostile to others.
To sum up, people nowadays live in a busy
world and economic polarization causes fight. In this regard, I firmly believe
that people in the past are kinder that today.
