An intriguing topic of
discussion at hand is whether today’s children go through different problems
from those their parents went through. While some people might say that they
suffer same problems with their parents, I strongly believe that the problems
they have seem divergent from former generations for two reasons.
To begin with, what today’s
children suffer has changed from past because the way of acquiring information
has shifted. Unlike past days when people used to obtain well-tailored
information through traditional methods, such as newspaper, TV, radio or so on,
people these days are surrounded by a myriad of raw information. Accordingly,
today’s young people are often misguided by fake news or inappropriate
information. Hence, even though they do not suffer from spending too much time
acquiring material itself like old days anymore, what plagues them is sorting
the accurate ones. In other words, these days’ children regard gleaning is no
more problem like how their parents used to.
Furthermore, because life
expectancy has been prolonged compared to before, the today’s young tend to
have various life styles. For example, in Korea most of parents had comparably
similar life plans themselves. Because they had shorter average lifespan, they
were often told that having stable job in early age and forming a family early
are the best path of life. However, as the children are realizing that there
may be more time to enjoy themselves rather than forming a family in early age,
they tend to plan their lives differently. And it mostly varies child to child.
For this reason, they spend more time pondering what are the best choice for themselves.
Consequently, I believe
that today’s children’s life style has changed significantly because the world
has changed in a fast pace. Therefore, according to the alternation of
lifestyle, the young surely are plagued by dissimilar problems with their
parents.
