These days, many university students argue that universities have to invest much money in sports for some reasons. I firmly believe that playing sports is as important as studying hard, so I agree with the following statement. I will explain this by giving two reasons.
To begin with, by playing sports, students can improve their health. In other words, from elementary school to university, students have to sit to study all day. This sedentary life can bring about some diseases, such as obesity. To recover students' health, it is essential for a school to spend money on sports. My experience is a good example of this. When I entered university, I was suffering pain on my back. This is because I had been sitting all day to study a lot in high school. Fortunately, my school required all students to have sports classes, such as swimming, and tennis. I decided to learn how to swim, which is good for back and neck. After I learned swimming, some pain on my body got better extremely in only a few months. As can be seen in my example, funding for sports can improve students’ health and their campus life.
On top of that, through sports, students can have a relationship with other students. Due to the features of sports, students have to play with others. In this process, students can have a chance to hang out with others, and make good friends. My sister has a suitable experience for this. When she went into university, there was no one she was closed to. In this regard, she had difficulty having friends, causing her to have depression. However, when she was a sophomore, her school began to make sports clubs, such as basketball, and badminton. To alleviate her depression, she joined a badminton club. In there, she was able to meet various people and hang out with them. By talking about her hardship with others while at university, her illness was getting better, and her quality of campus life raised a lot. If it had not been for sports clubs in her school, she would not have cured depression, and gotten used to campus life.
Of course, it is unquestionable that the purpose of universities is to raise academic students. However, schools also should not ignore difficulties students experience. By extending opportunities for students to play sports, universities can achieve their purpose more efficiently. For these reasons, I am all for the following statement.
