Some
people think that school should focus primarily on academic subjects rather than
subjects mostly dealing with emotional and physical aspects. However, I would argue
that exercising at school should not be neglected and must be required. In this
essay, I would suggest two reasons and corresponding examples.
First of all, in terms of
academic ability, prompt exercising can even be helpful for students’ academic
performance. Using body parts appropriately may enhance concentration. Sitting
in the same place for several hours may decrease students to focus on lessons.
In this context, appropriately placing exercising class will lead students to
refresh themselves so that concentrating on teachers’ instructions better. It seems
obvious that exercising helps students refreshing their brain from the fact
that numerous schools have physical education classes in a regular basis and
they do not remove physical education classes in their curriculum. Therefore, in
my opinion, exercising can benefit students in the way of academic performance.
On top of that, exercising at school is important for students in
terms of building social skills. Group sports such as soccer and basketball,
which require collaboration with team members, may give students opportunity to
experience working in a group as well as enhancing team working ability. As a
former high school teacher, I witnessed many of my students get much closer
after school sports day since they had same goal with their team members and
somehow felt the sense of achievement after they won.
For these reasons, I believe that exercising in school must be
required, particularly because school has its objectives in not only to enhance
students’ academic ability but also making students prepare for becoming a part
of society.
