▶ Your Answer : Some people think that colleges and univesities have to help their students to enhance their capacity in work. However, in my opinion, schools do not have to do so. This is because students come to a school to learn academic knowledge and in fact schools cannot successfully teach their students about work.
To begin with, a college is not where students enter for a job. Instead, it is called 'ivory tower of knowledge' or 'hall of knowledge', the place where students study for the sake of learning itself. To explain, students anticipate themselves studying different sphere of academics only to fulfill their curiosity about the principle of the world. They do "not" pay expensive tuition fees merely to add specifications for their job-seeking. For example, when my little brother was nineteen years old, he had to choose between job school and ordinary university. If he had concentrated on working well, he must have chosen job school, since it has much more opportunity to learn about actual work. However, he chose to enter normal university. When I asked him about it, he said that he wanted to study pure academics, which is the basis of all technologies and society. This supports the idea that students attend college for academic purpose.
On top of that, schools are not the best teacher regarding work. This is because we cannot neglect the importance of experience. If we have only textbook knowledge, then we will not be eligible to do any pragmatic work. What makes our knowledge more valuable is experience which we gain from everyday moments. Likewise, actual work experience is needed for students to prepare for their work. In this respect, schools are not an appropriate place to do so. For example, when I was in the university, I took several classes and I learned about the principle and fabrication of semiconductors. It might seem absurd, but I thought that I knew all about semiconductors. Later, it turned out that I was arrogant. I had a chance to participate in an intership program from Samsung. From there, I got a lot of invaluable experience which could not be compared to that of school.
To encapsulate, due to the students' enthusiasm toward the academics and schools' incapability to teach work, I firmly hold that colleges and universities must not try to prepare students for their workplace. |
