In the reading passage, there is ample
support for the author’s claim that relocating reptiles from developing and
constructing areas does not actually serve as a good way to preserve them.
However, the professor gives the lecture gives several reasons as a rebuttal to
the author’s point. He believes that, in fact, transferring them is actually
worthwhile in order to save reptiles.
First, the professor contends that new
habitats and the increase of capacity of existing areas can cover over-populating.
In UK, unused lands were transformed to accommodate sand lizards and it was
successful. In addition, the areas that are occupied by other reptiles already
can afford more reptiles by forming artificial environments. This casts doubt
on the reading passage’s claim that relocation only causes overpopulation and
survival competition among newly settling reptiles and existing ones.
Next, the professor insists that the transfer of
disease can be prevented by splitting up the population. Furthermore, it is
effective as well for experts to observe animals regularly and segregate the
ones from the habitat if they find any infected ones. This counters the reading
passage’s assertion that the pre-occupying reptiles are prone to new diseases so
that they can easily spread.
Finally, the professor argues that trapping
reptiles is actually not dangerous to them. It is true that reptiles need water
to survive but then we can easily place some water on the bottom of the bucket.
To protect them from predators, we can install things like moss where they can
easily hide. This refutes the reading passage’s assertion that there
are dangerous situations that the trapped reptiles can be exposed to. |
