▶ Your Answer :
The reading passage and the
lecture both deal with the functions of antler. The reading passage provides
three pieces of physical traits about antlers, whereas the lecture argues against
it by providing three compelling rebuttals.
Firstly, the article points out that antlers
play a critical role in attracting mates. In addition, antlers are used to express
their power of dominance. However, the lecturer challenges the point by
stating that antlers are not a key factor in attracting mates. Most of male deer(단수=복수)
use usually
other methods to attract female deer. To be specific, vocally attractive sound
and body posture can be used to attract mates and are used to show off their
dominance.
(다시듣고보완) Moreover,
according to the research, some female deer select the male which have smaller
antlers than other male’s one.
Secondly, the author argues that antlers are
used to mark the territory that they control. What the marking mean is that antlers
play a role of visual warnings to other males. On the other hand, the professor
makes an opposing point to this argument. The professor’s point is (거의 못들음/ 다시듣고보완)
that deer represent marking of their territory for using not visual marking but
scent. This is because the deer like to rub with trees and bushed, so their
smells are usually left on the trees and bushes. To explain, deer do the
rubbing motion to remove their outer soft skins in fall.
Finally, the writer goes on to explain that
antlers are used to defend themselves against predators. When deer meet
predators they use their antlers to cope with the emergency circumstance. The speaker
refutes the writer’s claim by stating that it is not true. This is because
antlers are observed in only limited season: winter. If antlers are tools of
defense, (다시듣고보완)
they would have the antlers all year around. Also, if the antlers
are tools of defense, because female deer raise their baby without male’s
protection, female deer should have the antlers. However, female does
not have ones. |
